Sylvie Ungauer et Paul Laurent

Artists in Arts Visuels et Arts du spectacle residence

Residence executed within the context of the permanent creation Fabrique "Mille et un Plateaux" in March 2021.

Sylvie Ungauer is an artist who is interested in identity and feminist issues and, more widely, in the relation of the individuals with the place where they live. She produces works with variable scales, whether cities models, livable sculptures, graphic works, and movies that question territoriality.

The composition work of Paul Laurent led him to develop in studio a sound practice made of the manipulation of objects of all kinds. Persuaded that music is created just at the moment when it is listened to, and with the other - musicians and listeners - his sound work is inseparable of the context in which it is produced

"May all that my body touches be transformed in tawny gold nuggets!”
It is the challenge that both persons involved in this story issue themselves, in the face of the plastic objects present on stage. As in the legend of King Midas, through manipulations, contact of moving bodies, these “objects” are transformed to become music, poetry, and ornament.

Manufactured objects, they have already undertaken a renewal process becoming matter in contact with water, sun, living organisms after having been abandoned in rivers and oceans.

But in return, they altered ecosystems, modified our loved ones, the marine animals, to in the end come back to us. Will we transform ourselves with the overabundance of microplastics?
